I believe trail design is an "on the ground" project exploring the landscape, finding features that are desirable and others to protect. This process requires experience and "an eye for dirt,"  in other words a combination of art and science to build an attractive trail. I strive to design trails that "fit" the landscape with minimal impacts as well as provide trail users with an enjoyable experience.

I have worked as a park ranger, park supervisor, and superintendent in the San Francisco Bay Area from 1988-2002 managing a heavily used trail network and building a variety of natural surface and crusher fines ADA accessible trails

Since then, I have been living and working in Amherst Massachusetts, raising two boys with my wife who is a professor at the University of Massachusetts.
